This course focuses on compliance requirements for energy efficiency of residential and small buildings. This course will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how to interpret and apply different provisions of the Code. Participants will gain knowledge of key concepts, compliance pathways, and best practices for achieving code compliance, all aimed at enhancing building performance and reducing energy consumption.
The course is organized into nine modules, each designed to focus on specific learning objectives. The online course is developed for you to learn at your own pace. Each module consists of three main components: (1) lecture video, (2) activity, and (3) end of module quiz. Please note that all quizzes are multiple-choice and are designed to assess participants’ understanding of the material.
Participants will have 3 months to complete the course content, including the final exam. After completing the modules, participants will take a final exam. A score of 70% or higher on the exam is required to pass the course and earn the relevant accreditation.
Upon completion of this course, the participants will be, better, able to:
- Understand the relationship between energy codes and their relationship with construction practices
- Apply the knowledge to understand various compliance paths described by Section 9.36 of NBC, and recognize appropriate solutions to meet specific compliance paths.
- Understand the rationale for tiered approach and how to assess the design for tiered energy consumption.
- Apply knowledge of building science to understand how the interaction of heat, air, and moisture within a building affects the energy use, health and comfort of occupants.
- Understand the details on how to review the performance path through energy modelling.
